Katherine
Wing / Goalie
Katherine has been playing power soccer for the Hot Shots for 1 year! She is 12 years old and lives with her family near Greenfield. Katherine was born with a neuromuscular disease, which causes her body to struggle to produce the energy it needs to power her muscles and organs. Power soccer has given her a place among people who do not look at her differently, whether it is a good day or a bad day for her body. She is treated as an equal, and has grown in her self-confidence and abilities in her first season, and is making big strides in her second.
When Katherine joined the Hot Shots, she was 10 years old, and struggling with her physical differences. She worried about seeming different, and had low self confidence. Power soccer has given her a strong sense of who she is whether in her wheelchair or walking, the power to find a competitive streak inside of her, and a community where she feels fully seen and included. She is a wing for the team as well as one of the goalies. She knows that she has a lot to learn, and is eager to grow and improve and play power soccer for many years. When asked her favorite memory from power soccer so far, she said “Getting to attend power soccer camp and learn from US National Team members and players from around the nation. “
